David Lutes and Jason Black were long time friends before they decided to go into the Custom Homebuilding business together. David and Jason have known each other since freshman year while attending Saint Xavier High School in Louisville. After high school, David went on to graduate with his Masters of Engineering from the University of Louisville. Jason, with a golf scholarship to Bellarmine University, graduated with a Masters of Business Administration. David and Jason both received jobs at Top Fortune companies and garnered many skills transferable in running a successful custom homebuilding company.
Through high school, the two would visit new construction in now, well-established neighborhoods of Hurstbourne, Oxmoor Woods, and Mockingbird Gardens. They would also slip in on large remodels in other older areas of Indian Hills, Cherokee Park, The Highlands, and Seneca Gardens. They looked forward to the day when they could achieve home ownership. After working a few years and saving enough money to build a home, Jason and David interviewed and visited homes of builders. Through this process, the two realized that there was a need for a high quality, organized and professional custom homebuilder in the Louisville area. They just could not find a homebuilder that provided a home with the amenities the two thought should be standard in a Custom Home. With the strong support from their wives, David and Jason began building for close family and friends while employed managing two-three projects a year.
Almost ten years later. Stonecroft Homes, a Louisville homebuilder and remodeler oversees around 20 homes a year. Stonecroft specializes in the Design/Build process where they counsel clients from the initial concept design to handing over the keys after completion. Over 90% of their homes built each year are for clients wanting the Extraordinary. The other 10% are custom spec homes that allow David and Jason to get really creative and try new ideas.
Stonecroft Homes has achieved high levels of success in the Louisville area's Custom Home Building industry. This can be accredited to David & Jason's unique ability in blending architectural details of the past to create timeless new homes that enhance the lifestyles of their homeowners. Stonecroft Homes is proud to be one of the South's top Homebuilders by being 1 of around 50 homebuilders chosen to be part of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program. Each year, Southern Living carefully selects members based on their reputation among local businesses and consumers; strength of presence in their respective markets, superior quality and attention to detail, innovative style, and other criteria.
Stonecroft Homes rise to popularity and recognition by others in the industry began in 2006, just six months out of Corporate America, with their first entry, Chateau Liberte', in Homearama. Chateau Liberte' took 1st place for the two prestigious awards given by the public; Favorite Home & Favorite Interior Design. That home inspired a couple transferring into Louisville to build their home in the 2007 Homearama. The 2007 Homearama entry, Chateau Magnifique was again the Grand Award Winner for Favorite Home. In a total of three Homearamas entered, Stonecroft Homes has won best trim carpentry twice. This award is the testament of their creative abilities. As one client stated, "Stonecroft has the artistic vision to make an empty home feel furnished with their beautiful mouldings, mantles, built-in bookcases, correct proportions, and window seats."
In 2007, Stonecroft Homes entered Norton Commons, a Traditional Neighborhood Development, again believing that the neighborhood concept was a gold standard but there was a need for well-detailed homes at a value price. As partner, David Lutes, said, "We wanted to give a million dollar feel below 400k price. They achieved this with many of their designs including the Mulberry, Palazzo, Tuscany Villa, and GQ - winning the Homebuilders Association of Louisville's' Sales and Marketing awards for best floor plan in a given price category. To date, Stonecroft Homes, even entering Norton Commons 3-years after it started, has built the most Single Family Homes in the development. This is just another affirmation that they understand the wants and demands of today's homeowners.
